This is how I think solomon islanders should celebrate solomon island anniversary.
In Brisbane and other places in Australia and New Zealand we usually just have a get together bbq with our friends.
Could we have a more formal arrangement each year where we have a particular fund raising goal {such as childrens ward, preschool education, disability sevices etc} and well organised functions where we have dancers and entertainers from home to visit. These events should be attended by the consul/ high commisioner and given support by the government and tourist authority. I am sure we could raise an amount which could make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged Solomon Islanders.
This is also an excellent way to get local publicity and advertise Solomon Islands culture and tourism!!!
Have any of you out there got an opinion on this idea? |

| The honorary consul has done this in Sydney, and I have attended one or two of these. The funds go to beds for Solomon islands at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney. |
