You've done us proud, wantok:
Aloha Colleagues, Students, and Friends,
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Tarcisius Kabutaulaka will be joining the faculty of the Center for Pacific Islands Studies as an Associate Professor of Pacific islands Studies in January of 2009.
Dr. Kabutaulaka hails from the Weather Coast of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. He received his doctorate in Political Science and International Relations from the Australian National University, and taught for a number of years at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji, before taking a position as research fellow with the East West Center's Pacific Islands Development Program (PIDP). He has written extensively on the Solomon Islands and on Australia's recent intervention there. Dr. Kabutaulaka has also been a participant as well as an analyst of political events; he served as the chief negotiator for Guadalcanal Province and the Isatabu Freedom Movement at the Solomon Islands Peace Conference in 2000. In addition, he has worked as a consultant for a number of regional and international organizations. Dr. Kabutaulaka's research interests include development, education, conflict resolution, issues of governance, and the contemporary relationship between the Pacific Islands and Asia. He has also been an active supporter of the center while here in Honolulu with PIDP.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the search committee for their hard work; they are Profs. Terence Wesley-Smith (chair), Vilsoni Hereniko, John Mayer, Davianna Pomaika`i McGregor, and Ty Tengan.

Olketa wantoks,
Tagio tumas for all your messages. I really appreciate it. Dou vanighamu for the confidence and the encouragement. Inau mamanao ghamu. I owe this achievement to Solomon Islanders - including my people of Tasimauri - who worked hard to build and maintain the schools that I went to, to begin this journey.
I will not start on the new job until January 2009. In the meantime I am still with the East-West Center and can be reached on my usual EWC e-mail address.
Dou.
